Dr. G. Patrick Flanagan was born in 1944 in Oklahoma. As a child, Patrick was noted for his exceptional gifts and unusual abilities to become exceedingly proficient in the Sciences and the Arts. Patrick excelled in chemistry, physics and electronics. His early inventions include a missile detector that he invented from the spare parts of an amateur radio. Two years later, in 1958, he invented the Neurophone®, a device that allowed sound to be translated through skin. The original model of the Neurophone® in 1958 was from a Hi-Fi stereo with a transducer, metal pads and a plastic bag. After a few iterations and perfecting the circuit, Patrick had created a state-of-the-art electronics masterpiece. In 1962, the Acadamy of Achievement in San Diego, California, awarded Patrick with the Gold Medal for the invention of the Neurophone®. And today, the new 21st Century Neurophone® Model GPF-1101 DSP has taken the core essence of previous models and has been re-engineered to rigorous heights in integrity, quality and standards. *See new model GPF-1011 DSP below.
Also in 1962, LIFE magazine featured Patrick in the article, "The Take-Over Generation" and was listed as one of the top young men and women in the country.
In 1968, the United States Patent Office issued patent #3,393,279 to Dr. Flanagan for his nervous system excitation device. Advances in printed circuit board and microprocessor technology had allowed the growth and development of the Neurophone® into previous advanced models throughout the 1980's and 1990's.
Dr. Flanagan's solutions are real and scientifically proven to work. At 11 years of age, he designed a missile detection system that attracted the attention of the US Military, due to its precision and accuracy in detecting “Classified” missile tests. It was subsequently purchased by the Department of Defense. And, at age 14, he invented a device enabling deaf people to hear and received two patents for it. At 17, he was part of a Pentagon Think Tank and later was a consultant to the CIA, NSA, and NASA. As a physicist and medical doctor, Patrick realized that his passion for the applied sciences grew out of a deep love and desire to protect humanity and the essence of life. He possesses a unique ability to reorganize key concepts from a variety of applied sciences to solve intractable problems. He is a futurist with deep encyclopedic knowledge of the applied sciences.
For decades, Dr. Flanagan has openly invited stringent scrutiny of his research and discoveries by the medical and scientific communities. The seeds of this effort are blossoming at an exponential rate as the scientific community is validating and embracing his extraordinary contributions. Academics and researchers at universities from Oxford to Stanford are beginning to study Dr. Flanagan's breakthrough discoveries and teach them to Scientists of the future. RESEARCH OVERVIEW
PHI Sciences is dedicated to the advancement of nutritional sciences, and studies include multiple aspects of chemistry, biology, and physics to determine how NanoTechnology supplements interact with the human body. Current studies include free radical testing, metabolic analyses of NADH and ATP production, lactic acid reduction, hydride absorptivity, and other areas of nutritional science. Research goals involve finding the links between aging, cellular energy, and nutritional supplementation. To accomplish these goals, PHI Sciences use the highest technology analytical methods, including:
- Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR): There has been a lot of interest surrounding the use of NMR. While it is an analytical method that can indicate the structure of molecules in a compound, the use of NMR goes well beyond structure. NMR is a useful tool for monitoring, in real-time, reactions that occur in the body. NMR can also be used to identify biological activity through the production of the by-products of metabolism. NMR is an invaluable tool for the study of free radical scavenging, metabolic production, and structural analysis.
- Oxidative Reduction Potential (ORP) Meter: ORP is an accurate measure of the reducing capacity of antioxidants in a liquid, but not necessarily measure effectiveness in scavenging free radicals. The ORP is generally used in conjunction with other methods to give a true indication of the possible biological benefits of a compound.
- Spectrophotometry: Spectrophotometers allow a researcher to follow reactions, including biological reactions, in real-time, and can indicate both immediate changes as well as changes over time of chemical reactions.
- Electron Microscopy (SEM and TEM): Electron microscopy allows for the analysis of surface and compositional structure of a compound or molecule. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) bombards a compound with electrons that reflect a high resolution image at incredible magnifications of the compound’s surface. Tunneling electron microscopy (TEM) sends electrons through the molecules to allow high-magnification, high-resolution images of the compound, and indicates the molecular composition as well as the change in amounts of compounds in a reaction.
- Ion Beam Analysis (IBA): IBA gives a very detailed atomic composition of a compound or molecule. It allows researchers to understand exactly what compound they are working with and gain insight into how it may react with other compounds.
- In addition to these high-technology analytical instruments, traditional and innovative methods are used to analyze the efficacy and potency of all products. PHI Sciences’ work has been published in peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals indicating the high integrity and validity of our work.

Dr. Flanagan has since been spotlighted in countless television, radio and print media venues. He has hundreds of inventions and has been part of history's most profound and novel research endeavors, including the Gemini Space Flight Team at NASA, and the Navy Dolphin Communication Project. The Flanagan Neurophone – Golden Ratio Series The new Golden Ratio Series utilizes the DSP technology of the Neurophone, and incorporates the addition of PHI-based tones, which have a remarkable effect on Meditation, Relaxation, and Accelerated Learning.
Hear sounds directly through your body
This is one of the most powerful mind-expanding technologies ever created! The Neurophone – as mentioned in “Super Memory”, “Super Learning” and “Megabrain” – converts sound waves into digital signals that match the time ratio codes understood by every nerve in the body. These essential codes are used for speech recognition, locating sound sources in the 3-D world and in accelerated learning. The newly refined model with its advanced micro-circuitry offers the finest in sound and ultrasonic neuropathic stimulation with Digital Signal Processing (DSP). The Neurophone has been shown in tests using EEGs to balance the hemisphere of the brain and promote the production of Alpha, Theta, and Delta waves, which benefits accelerated learning and relaxation.
How Can You Use The Neurophone?
Using the Neurophone is simple . . . just put the transducers on your forehead, using the headband. Then, choose the built-in “pink sound” generator, or your own music, or the learning CDs . . . and you are on your way to re-sensitizing new neuropathways to your brain. By bypassing the ears, the body “hears” the sound – making reading, meditating, studying and learning much easier. By using transducers, information is processed directly by the brain. The Neurophone stimulates areas of the brain that normal hearing pathways do not, resulting in expanded consciousness and integrated awareness of all the senses. Some research suggests that the Neurophone activates new neurological pathways, which may increase intelligence, visual perception, and may aid those with Alzheimer’s disease. In contrast, our ears are not selective to the content of hearing information Some of the documented benefits of the Neurophone include:
 |
Stimulate new neurological pathways in your brain without distractive input.
|
 |
Electronic Telepathy
|
 |
Used to develop Dolphin-Human holographic communication
|
 |
Three-Dimensional Hearing

Accelerated learning: There are several ways the Neurophone can be used for accelerated learning: 1. Listening to “pink noise”, or Fibonacci sounds, as you read your lessons 2. Playing language CD’s through the Neurophone (DSP 1011) 3. Playing CD’s through the Neurophone (DSP 1011) and having a set of headphones hooked up to the CD player simultaneously 4. Listening to “pink noise”, or Fibonacci, through the Neurophone while listening to language tapes through regular speakers 5. Playing CD’s through the Neurophone while sleeping 6. Playing language CDs (or other types of CD’s) through the Neurophone while reading or studying an entirely different subject. The Flanagan Neurophone GRS (Golden Ratio Series) is small and compact (4” x 2” x ¾”, 3 oz.), which makes it easy to use while you are on the go. Simply plug in the transducers, put the transducers on the headband, clip it on your belt; and you are ready to go. Unlike the Neurophone DSP standard model, it does not plug into a CD player, which makes it ideal for use while doing other activities. It has an internal timer that can be set from 1 to 3 hours, and you can adjust the intensity of the sound. The Neurophone GRS has two internal sound programs: the Fibonacci, or (Golden Rule Series), and Pink Noise. Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician who was inspired by the symmetry of shells and plants, and wrote a mathematical formula to calculate that expression (see formula above). The Fibonacci program uses sound harmonics that are based on Fibonacci’s mathematical formula. The sound, or pitch in this program, strobes according to the Fibonacci sequence based on 5ths. This program is used for healing, meditation and de-stressing. Pink Noise contains sine waves of all the pitches of audible frequencies with a sound that simulates a waterfall. Since it provides a wide range of frequencies, it is ideal for focus, concentration, and learning. You can also use these two programs in the sleep mode. During sleep entrainment a timed sequence guides the user through the different brainwave states into an ultra deep and meditative state. When you select the sleep mode, the program automatically turns off in 30 minutes. The sound strobes starting at 14 Hertz (alert) and gradually slows down to 1 Hertz (sleep), while the volume of the sound diminishes. The Neurophone Golden Ratio Series (GRS) comes with a Control Unit, Transducer Cable, Headband, Instruction, built-in Pink Noise wave-form generator, Programmable Shutoff Timer, Belt Clip, Fibonacci Sounds, and a 1-Year Warranty. The Compact GRS Neurophone is great for:

Dr. Patrick Flanagan's revolutionary ultrasonic neural stimulation instrument for brain entrainment, aiding in learning, relaxation and meditation

Imagine a time when trying to concentrate on learning a new activity or a work project. Think how easy it can be to become distracted by other noises, such as co-workers, phones ringing, friends carrying on loud conversations around you, television or radio blaring, etc. Hearing is an amazing sense, however, our ears are not selective to the content that they do, or do not, hear. It is sometimes difficult to focus on the task at hand. The Neurophone effectively bypasses the ears to “hear without using your ears”. Martin Lenhardt’s remarkable work in this area at the University of Virginia clearly demonstrated that human beings have the ability to detect ultrasonic sound when it is transmitted through the skin, bones and liquids of the body – as published in Science magazine, Vol. 253, 5,1991,82. Lenhardt had duplicated Dr. Patrick Flanagan’s original 1958 Neurophone, using sophisticated ultrasonic transducers and discovered that a tiny organ in the inner ear, that is normally associated with balance, is also a hearing organ for ultrasonic sound. Information can be directly processed in the brain without the distractive input. This ability to bypass the traditional auditory mechanisms allows new insight into hearing, neural pathways, brain encoding and processing.
Human Ultrasonic Speech Perception Martin L. Lenhardt, Ruth Skellett, Peter Wang, Alex M. Clarke
Bone-conducted ultrasonic hearing has been found capable of supporting frequency discrimination and speech detection in normal, older hearing-impaired, and profoundly deaf human subjects. When speech signals were modulated into the ultrasonic range, listening to words resulted in the clear perception of the speech stimuli, and not a sense of high-frequency vibration. These data suggest that ultrasonic bone conduction hearing has potential as an alternative communication channel in the rehabilitation of hearing disorders.

Daily use over an extended period of time helps to relieve stress and imparts a sense of well-being. The key to the Neurophone GPF-1011 DSP is the stimulation of the nerves of the skin with a digitally coded signal that carries the same time-ratio code that is recognized as sound by any nerve in the body. The Neurophone is a precision scientific instrument with an extensive digital signal processor that encodes sound and modulates it onto ultrasonic signals. Patrick was a child prodigy in electronics, chemistry and physics. He had discovered an entirely new way to transmit sound into the human brain. Patrick’s profound invention has received two United States patents – #3,393,279 and #3,647,970. It took medical science 33 years to discover how his device actually works. It has been said that it takes 50 years before great inventors are understood. In 1991, Martin Lenhardt of the University of Virginia discovered that human beings have the ability to detect ultrasonic sound when it is transmitted through the skin, bones and liquids of the body, and his groundbreaking discovery was published in the prestigious journal, Science. Therefore, he had duplicated the original Neurophone, discovering that a tiny organ in the inner ear that is associated with balance is also a hearing organ for ultrasonic sound. This organ is called the “Saccule”, and is about the size of a pea. It contains nerve endings, called “Macula”, and an “Otolith” – a gelatinous cap containing fine sand-like particles of calcium carbonate, called “Otoonia”. When the head is tilted in relation to gravity, the macula signals the vestibulocochlear nerve in the nervous system so that balance can be regained. The saccule has nerve endings that are distributed throughout the brain. Some of these nerves go to the area of the brain that computes sound. Other nerves are distributed into areas concerned with long-term memory. The Neurophone transmits modulated ultrasonic sound at 40,000 cycles per second (40 kHz). When we swim with dolphins or whales, we can hear the ultrasonic energy emitted by these mammals through our saccule. By using the Neurophone, we can train our brain pathways so that we can “hear” through the saccule pathway. It just may be that our ancestors could communicate with whales and dolphins by the use of ultrasonic sound. When the Neurophone is used as an experimental listening device, these pathways are developed and appear to expand consciousness, balancing the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The GPF-1011 DSP Neurophone has been developed and engineered to provide a means for ultrasonic waves to be interpreted by our brain as “hearing”. The technology bypasses the normal audio mechanisms used by the body to hear sound and provides a direct neural stimulation directly to the brain. By bypassing the ears to hear, activities, such as reading, studying, meditating, and learning in general may become easier to comprehend and retain. Generally speaking, commercial digital speech recognition circuitry is based on a technology called Dominant Frequency Power Analysis. While speech may be recognized by such a circuit, a more effective and natural speech encoding is based on time ratios. If the phase of the frequency power analysis circuits are not correct, they will not work. The intelligence (sound) is carried by phase information. The frequency content of the voice gives our voice a certain quality, but frequency does not contain information. Most attempts at computer voice recognition and voice generation are only partially successful. Until digital time-ratio encoding is used, computers will never be able to truly talk to us. By recognizing and using time-ratio encoding, we could transmit clear voice data through extremely narrow bandwidths.
If the Neurophone transducers are placed on the closed eyes, or on the face, the sound can be clearly “heard”, as if it were coming from inside the brain. When the transducers are placed on the face, the sound is perceived through the trigeminal nerve. There was an earlier test performed at Tufts University – designed by Dr. Dwight Wayne Batteau – a partner of Dr. Flanagan in the United States Navy Dolphin Communication Project. The test was known as the “Beat Frequency Test”. It is a well-known fact that sound waves of two slightly different frequencies create a “beat” note as the waves interfere with each other. For example, if a sound of 300 Hertz and one of 330 Hertz are played into one ear at the same time, a beat note of 30 Hertz will be perceived. This is a mechanical summation of sound in the bone structure of the inner ear. There is another beat – sounds beat together in the corpus callosum in the center of the brain. This bi-naural beat is used by the Monroe Institute and others to simulate altered brain states by entraining (causing brain waves to lock on and follow the signal) the brain into high alpha, or even theta brain states. These brain states are associated with creativity, lucid dreaming and other states of consciousness - otherwise difficult to reach when awake.
A TOOL FOR FASTER LEARNING & FOCUS Revolutionary Ultrasonic Neural Stimulation The Neurophone was originally invented by Dr. Patrick Flanagan in 1958, based on its ability to enable a person to hear sounds without using the ears. After decades of further development, the Neurophone has proven highly effective as a learning aid, as well as a relaxation and meditation tool, due to its ability to induce high alpha and theta waves in the brain. These waves have been proven in multiple studies to improve learning, increase relaxation, and provide higher states of awareness. |

The Neurophone is a powerful brain entrainment device. If we play alpha or theta signals directly through the Neurophone, the brain can be moved into any state desired. Batteau’s theory was that if we could place the Neurophone transducers so that the sound was perceived as coming from one side of the head only -- and if we played a 300 Hz signal through the Neurophone, while playing a 330 Hz signal through an ordinary headphone –we would get a beat note if the signals were summing in the inner ear bones. When the test was conducted, we were able to perceive two distinct tones without a beat. The test again proved that Neurophonic hearing was not achieved through bone conduction.
